Illustration: Create a Mecha Design

Ready for a machine takeover? Join this course and learn to illustrate amazing robots. Well, it may not be an actual rebellion, but you’ll learn everything you need to know to work with perspective and grids, which is even greater! So, get ready to dominate your skills and let’s get started!

About the course

This course is about robots but in a different way to what we’re used to. We won’t talk about AI takeover nor the end of the Earth, but instead, we’re going to dive into the robotics world and analyze some key concepts in order to create a nice robot and, thus, be able to show our amazing skills to the client. Throughout the course, I’ll go over different graphic references and explain the concept so that you can carry out your final project. We’re also going to look at some Photoshop characteristic and work with perspective to get an even more professional result.

Which project are we going to develop?

We’ll be creating our own Mecha taking as a reference the most well-known robots from movies and video games. Apart from these references, we’re going to base ourselves on an animal to develop the structure of our robot. This way, according to the animal we choose, the Mecha will have different characteristics. In my case, for instance, I’ve taken a crab as a reference and I’m going to try to reflect the main features of this animal on my robot. We’ll also need to make sure that our robot is adapted to the specific needs for which it will be designed.

What you will learn:

  • Using the perspective grid
  • Different rotating mechanisms of machines
  • Developing a concept from a shape
  • Adding details and brainstorming
  • Creating a robot based on the anatomy of an animal.
  • Applying color and developing the line art
  • Gradients' functions in Photoshop
