About this course
On this course we'll learn about the process of creating your own children’s book and sketching dynamic characters for your story. I'll be taking inspiration from the fairytale Goldilocks and the three bears, and I'll show you how to research the right story for your book, and how to compose, color and storyboard your book from the planning stage to concept stage.
Children’s books are a unique genre in that they require not only expert storytelling and illustration skills, but also a keen focus on the audience before the story is even crafted. In other words, who will be reading it?
I will show you how to compose a story depending on your target age group. Younger children understand simpler shapes better and older children need fewer pictures per page – I will go in depth on how to go about researching this.
And finally, once we have finished with the research and planning, we'll create some interesting characters inspired from your story and sketch an accompanying expression sheet for each character for you to use as reference during your story book creation process.
