Illustration: Digital Hand-Drawing

Have you always liked how traditional drawings look on paper? Learn how to reflect this pencil drawing effect in a digital illustration and leave everyone speechless. Sounds good, right? Let's get started!

About the course

In this course, we're going to give our illustrations both a traditional effect together with a neon effect. In addition, I'll be using this course to talk about the most important issues concerning the current LGTB context and to pay tribute to some inspiring and well-known artists whom I'll be inspired by to create my own sign.

We'll be learning a new technique based on hatching and coloring using a digital software, in this case Photoshop.

What project are we going to develop?

We'll be creating a series of busts using as a reference four public figures considered gay icons and supporters of the LGBT community. We'll be using this new traditional drawing technique to create our illustrations and, once they're finished, we'll be grouping the four of them in a single composition.

The last step will consist of applying these styles in a mockup to see the final result and to pay tribute to these figures using the techniques I’m going to show you.

What you'll learn

  • Apply filters and textures with the brushes provided by Photoshop.
  • Create a powerful and eye-catching image suitable for printing.
  • Analyze the most significant characteristic of each figure.
  • Provide a brief history of the icons I've selected to represent.
  • Provide a brief history of the LGBT community.
