Illustration: Evil or Devil, Design a Villain

Is there a bad guy inside you? Do you think Loki is a good person? Do you want Death Eaters to be your friends? Do you worship Sauron? That's settled: this course is for you. In this course, you're going to learn how to create villains with evil features. And, in case you don't identify yourself with a bad guy, you just need to enjoy and learn some interesting stuff about these characters. Can you feel the evil intentions growing inside you?

About the course

In this course, we're going to learn the basic essentials of developing characters, especially, antagonists. These particular characters are going to be a huge challenge that we'll be able to overcome successfully.

Creating an evil character is more complex than we think. To make things easier, we're going to observe and analyse a series of well-known villains which appear in our favourite movies. We're going to use Photoshop and I'll give you some tips to not to overlook some little and important details that we usually omit.

Villains are charismatic characters which deserve to be admire from an artistic point of view. It's important that you believe in the evil nature of your character; that's why we're going to pay attention to different aspects that need to be highlighted in order to create a real evil genius. Are you in?

What project are we going to develop?

The final project consists of creating a series of busts based on a previous characters' description that I made and that you'll find in the Attachment tab. My task for you, then, is working with this description to create your own villains using all you'll be learning along the course. After that, you'll be able to add to your portfolio these new skills in creating villains that are perfect for the heroes of the stories you're working with.

What you're going to learn:

  •  Designing characters using different shapes.
  • Lighting effects and how to use them in our drawings.
  • Using color palettes based on our design.
  • Some facts about villains from movies.
  • Creating villains' significant features.
  • Learning to connect villains with their heroes.
  • Comparing villains' features with main characters' features.
