Motion Graphics: Learn the Principles of Animation

Motion Graphics: Learn the Principles of Animation

Have you ever wondered how to bring your designs to life but never really knew where to begin? Join me on this course, as we go through the basics of animation to have your artwork moving in no time!

About this Course

Designing is art. And when you move your designs, you're bringing them to life. Designers usually start exploring the art of animation at some point in their career. Like designing, animation has its own set of principles.

Here are some insights on how we can bring them together and create that smooth flowing and lively motion design (or motion graphics as some prefer to call it)

Let’s lay out some of the basic design principles before we move on to animation.

  • Balance
  • Emphasis
  • Rhythm
  • Contrast
  • Harmony
  • Pattern
  • Proportion
  • Repetition
  • Variety
  • Motion is physics as we understand in real life.

Animation principles are created to make your movement believable and entertaining, based and confined under the laws of motion in the physical world. For example gravity and weight. Consider there is no gravity, weight and no material properties to any object. What would the movement be like? Robotic, bland and dreary right?

We're going to learn the 12 principles of animation as introduced by animators Frank Thomas and Ollie Johnston in the early days based on the work of leading Disney animators. These have become the 12 commandments to follow in the art of animation.

What project are we going to develop?

I will be taking you through all the 12 principles and how you can practically implement them in your Motion Graphics Animation. I will explain these principles in depth by showing you how important each one of them is and if married together, the wonders they do to your animation. Because without these principles, your motion won't be Animation, but just movement.
