Hey guys, this is Rawson. Today, we'll be creating this photo slice effect using Photoshop. We'll be using some new tools and techniques to create this effect. We'll first remove the background from the image using the color range option. Then we'll draw some shapes using the Pen tool to create outer division. After that, we'll create shapes to give a slice effect. So let's begin our tutorial. Open a new Photoshop document, choose 1920 by 1080 pixels size and click OK. Next, drag and drop our downloaded image into the document, scale the size and place it at the center. Now, create another duplicate of the image and hide the original. Now, right-click and convert it into rasterize layer, so that it becomes a editable layer. After that, go to Select > Color Range. This will open the color range panel. Using this, we can remove the background color. To do that, click on the background area. So here to separate the background, we need to make the background completely white and the image area completely black. To adjust the contrast of the image, we can use fuzziness. By decreasing the value, we'll get a nice result. After decreasing some fuzziness level, with the Shift pressed, click on the patches in the background. Increase some fuzziness to make the edges of the image smooth. Then click OK. After that, apply mask to the layer. Invert the mask area using the shortcut Command or Ctrl + I. Now with the Alt pressed, click on the thumbnail to edit the masking in black and white view. Activate the Eraser tool by pressing E, select the hard brush tool and remove the black patches from the image. Here we can see some white patches in the background. To remove that, take a brush tool by pressing the B key and remove all the white patches from the background. After that, with Alt pressed, click on the thumbnail again. And here we got a nice image without the background. Now create another duplicate of the image layer. First convert into a smart object, then rasterize the layer. Next, go to Image > Adjustments and click on black and white. This will convert the color image to black and white. After that, make a brightness and contrast adjustment layer and increase the contrast level of the image. Add it some brightness too. Now, press P for the Pen too and choose shape option. Now let's draw our shapes following the structure of the face. Let's create the first division along the jaw. Disable the fill color and follow along the jaw line. Click and drag to give a smooth and a curved path. And then close the shape. Now, using the Direct Selection to edit the anchor points to maintain the flow. Like this will create two more bar shapes dividing the image into four divisions. One between the nose and other at the forehead. In the next step, we'll cut the image into four pieces. So make a selection by clicking on the thumbnail of the shape layer. Then select the original face image, then press Command or Ctrl + X to cut the selected area. And Command or Ctrl + Shift + V to paste it in the same place with a new layer. Similarly, make a selection by clicking on the thumbnail of the other two shapes, cut and paste them in the same place. Let's do some adjustments with a lower shape. We need to delete the anchor points. So select the delete Anchor Point tool and delete out the unwanted points. Then using the convert point tool, select the tangents to linear. After that, edit the points using the isolation tool. Now, cut and paste the division after cutting the faces into pieces, enable the top part and hide out the layers. Then take a Pen tool and draw the oval shape below the part. Edit this according to the shape of the face using the Direct Selection tool. Then select the ellipse tool and fill it up with right color. After that, place the layer under the image. Next, unhide the second part of the face. Then with the Alt pressed, create a duplicate of the shape layer and paste it just below it. Edit the anchor points to maintain the flow. Now, select the top part and the shape and group them up using the shortcut Command or Ctrl + G. Now, enable the other parts. Then take a copy of the shape and place it under the third part of the face. Now, select the previous shape and a part of the face, then group them up and hide out both the groups. Now, edit the shapes with the Direct Selection tool. ,Next make these two layers into a group. Now, place the groups one above the other, and drag the bottom part on top most layer. Now, we'll apply creating color to each of the oval shapes. So select the shapes and go to smart shape tool, pick the color fill panel and select gradient style. In that, click on the first slider and choose brighter color. Then go to the second slider and set some dark color. Change the angle of rotation to minus 90 and edit the sliders. Similarly, set some different gradient shades to the other shapes. After that, select the groups and do a proper placement to give a nice composition. Place them in a zigzag way. Now, do some adjustments with the shapes using the Direct Selection tool. This will add a more volume to each slices. Now, to do more adjustments with the gradient slices, double click on the shape layer. We'll get a gradient fill panel; in that panel, edit the angles. In the same way, open each of the gradient panel and edit the angle. Doble click on the shape tool, open the gradient panel and edit the angle of rotation, and the gradient sliders. This will give drop shadow effect to your design. Lastly, type out a text for the title, choose a proper font. Let's apply Lane Narrow regular font. Then on the character panel, decrease the distance between the rows and edit the spacing between each alphabet. Also, select the Type text and apply red color. Finally, our photo slice effect design is ready. We have given a nice slice effect to the image using some cool techniques. Follow the same techniques and create out your own photo slice effect.
